Leading Aircraftman George Firman
They say it pays to advertise. This case proved it does – after our Post on Facebook a few weeks ago regarding the Stolen and aborted return of the medals, they have been recovered. The Pacific Star and a Memorial Cross named to LAC George Firman, RNZAF who lost his life returning to NZ after the war when the plane he was a passenger on went missing and was never found, are on their way home.
The medals were recovered by the NZ Police and forwarded to MRNZ via RSA representative, Canterbury District Vice President Stan Hansen who contacted me. The medals will be reunited with LAC George Firman’s niece, Marilyn E. of Dunedin, tomorrow, 25 September … 73 years to the day that the 40 SQN Dakota DC-3 aircraft went missing – fate or providence?
Marilyn wishes to express her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in recovering the medals and returning them to her family.
Teamwork can move mountains (and find medals) – thank you all.
